Health Insurance in Poland

Poland has reciprocal health agreements with all EU countries for hospital treatment and medical services. All citizens of EU member states are entitled to free medical treatment in Public health institutions in Poland. Before traveling to Poland EU nationals should obtain a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which entitles them to this service. The card is usually valid from three to five years.

Polish citizens living in Poland, and foreigners staying in Poland on the basis of a permanent residency permit or a temporary residency permit, are eligible for state services if they pay mandatory or voluntary premiums.

Nevertheless, it is advisable to have comprehensive private insurance.

Some of the main medical insurance providers also have private clinics and offer special healthcare programs and membership plans.
