"Prime Minister Donald Tusk's government has set 2012 as the target date for adopting the euro. Before doing so, prospective members are required to spend least two years in an exchange rate mechanism, or ERM-II.
"Our goal is to join the ERM-II in the first half of this year, if possible," Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski said in an interview published Monday in the Dziennik daily.
The mechanism demands of members low and controlled inflation, healthy public finances and a budget deficit below 3 percent of GDP."
