Specialties and Popular Foods

There are many traditional Polish dishes to choose from. The national dish of Poland is bigos, made with sauerkraut, onions, wild mushrooms and any type of meat. There are traditional sausages: kabanos, long and highly spiced sausages; and mysliwska, hunters sausages made with pork and game. Soups are also very popular in Poland and are usually rich and thick. Barszcz is a clear beetroot soup and zurek is a barley soup. Fish dishes are also popular in Poland especially during religious holidays.

The national drink of Poland is vodka (wódka) and it comes in many different varieties. Wyborowa is the best standard vodka and there are other flavored varieties including zubrowka (bison grass), tarniowka (sloe berry), sliwowica (prune), pieprzowka (peppered), and jarzebiak (rowan berry).

Podwale 25 is more German than Polish. Food and beer is good anyway. However, advance reservation is advised - it is always packed (even in low season in the middle of the week - where all these people come from?)

Puszkin sounds Russian.

Vodka in Polish is written "wodka" pronounced "vudka", not "wydka".;-)

The best Polish food in Warsaw is in "u Fukiera" on rynek starego miasta (old town market square). It is also one of the most expensive restaurants over here.

Another good bet would be "Folk Gospoda" near ul. Grzybowska - food is Polish original and delicious, prices are much more grounded.

yes Folk Gospoda is a what I've heard has the most typical polish meal which is Schabowy with potato...and the size of it is huge, so you can't finish it, on top of it you have a very popular in Poland sour cabbage and ogurki (pickled cucumbers) and on top of it you have Polish beer, like Lech for example.
