The SNAP Agency has announced that the hip hop group N.E.R.D. and the experimental indie band MGMT will headline the Orange Warsaw Festival, part of the campaign to help Warsaw win the title of European Culture Capital in 2016.
"It is an unusual pleasure to announce the first confirmed performers for this year's edition of the Orange Warsaw Festival. Plac Defilad in Warsaw [around the Palace of Culture and Sciences] will host some of the biggest stars of the international music scene – N.E.R.D. and MGMT. They are unusual groups and are expected to put on an exciting show," stated Ewelina Krysiak from SNAP, organizers of the Festival.
Both N.E.R.D. and MGMT will be in Poland for the first time. Pharrell Williams from the trio N.E.R.D. already performed with Shay Haley at the 2006 Heineken Open'er Festival in Gdynia, northern Poland.
N.E.R.D. is a self-described funk-rock-alternative-hip hop trio with their third CD, Seeing Sounds, out in 2008. MGMT, previously known as The Management, is a Brooklyn, New York-based duo whose debut album, Oracular Spectacular (2008), includes still-smash-hits 'Electric Feel,' 'Time to Pretend' and 'Kids.'
The Festival takes place on 4-5 September and will, as it was last year, be free and open to all. Sponsored by the telecom giant Orange, the festival is part of the City of Warsaw's campaign to have the capital selected as 2016's European Capital of Culture. (mmj)
