Warsaw invaded by Western beat makers
Created: 06.03.2009 13:12
Three major Western acts are hitting Warsaw this weekend bringing the city electro beats, smooth rhymes and club-style hip hop.
Saturday evening, one of Warsaw's two exclusively hip-hop clubs, Harlem, will host Fatman Scoop, Grammy-award winning hip hop promoter, producer and radio personality out of New York City. His shiny Grammys came in 2005 from a collaboration with Missy Elliot and Ciara on the song 'Lose Control.'
Look for Fatman Scoop at Harlem, on Kolejowa Street on Saturday night – take a taxi as the neighbourhood will make you feel like you're stepping into a far-too dark, far-too dangerous alley (it's not, I promise). Entrance is 30 zloty.
Also on Saturday night, London DJ Fake Blood will be gracing the scene at Klub 55 to join the now-famous monthly Sorry, Ghettoblasters party. Self-described grindcore/electro/idol, Fake Blood will join the resident DJs DJ Sekta and DJ Kosakot to spin all night long for Warsaw's hipsters. Half of the Warsaw duo AM Radio, I Say Mikey will also take his turn at the tables.
Klub 55, conveniently located in the Palace of Culture and Science, boasts a line on this particular night... so be prepared to wait about 15-20 minutes. Entrance is 20-25 zloty and be sure to don some neon duds and pimp kicks.
Sunday also boasts some entertainment for the hardcore party fiend looking to burn off some steam. Pete Rock, American DJ/emcee, will spit rhymes at Karmel. Known for collaborations with Tribe Called Quest, The Roots and other hip hop legends, Pete Rock has been called one of America's top DJ producers.
Karmel, located on Solidarnosci Avenue, will open doors at the respectable Sunday-night hour of 20:00. Tickets cost 39 zloty til Sunday, and 49 zloty on the day of the concert. (mmj)
