Divorce fair to take place in Warsaw

This weekend Poland's capital is to host a 'divorce fair' aimed at helping couples untie the knot as painlessly as possible.

Some 30 exhibitors, including private detectives, lawyers, sexologists and even companies conducting DNA tests, are to present their services at the fair.

The idea of divorce fairs is new in Poland and it comes from Austria, where they are held under the banner of A new beginning. In Poland the first event of this kind was held in the western city of Wroclaw in September.

The thematic scope of the fair is an answer to the current 'market demand', claim the advertising experts.

And 'market' demand in Poland is growing pretty fast. According to data of the Central Statistical Office (GUS), every third marriage in Poland ends in divorce. In 2007 as many as 65,000 married couples split up, which is 20,000 more that ten years ago. (jm)

yes, in Warsaw if you want to get married in the summer and you want to rent a restaurant for the party you have to reserve in some cases a year in advance if not more.
the hottest monthes are july, august, but starting from may I think they start:)

wedding is a serious business in Poland, and I think it's open for new ideas from the west :)
a lot of mixed couples lately, during my stay here I've visited Portuguese and Belorussian wedding, Ukrainian and Colombian, American and Polish, Irish and Polish, British and Polish....ans so on :)

When you get married you do not thing about divorce, the same like a teenager does not think about funeral arrangements.

My bet would be divorce fairs will grow at least as popular as wedding fairs in Poland.

I've heard the best price you will get for a property when you buy from a divorcing couple, they would agree on any price, just because they can't stand each other. I know this is very bad and sad but it's life :-) you make your problems yourself :)

"rate per 1000" means per 1000 marriges? 0.24 for Libya means 24 divorces for each 100.000 marriges?

Also, if in Mongolia you have to ride a horse for a month to get to the place where they can register divorce, it would be manipulation of the statistics. The same with muslim countries perhaps?

Would be interesting to compare statistics by country: the divorce rates, men's death age and couse, adultry rates (are these mesuared), suicide rates, birth rates. :)
